How to optimize your mobile site to rank better in search engines?
Nowadays it is very common for us to use mobile devices for everything, from work to recreational activities. These gadgets are so common that they are currently used more to browse the Internet than a desktop computer. It doesn't matter what kind of website our website is, it is simply necessary to take a look at the traffic analysis and confirm this premise.
Thanks to this growing trend and the studies that have been carried out on this behavior, Google has decided to give preferential treatment to the indexing of sites that have a mobile version, proposing the concept “mobile-first indexing”.
Remember that at the beginning of last year an important change in its search engine was to warn users when an organic result was optimal for their mobile devices or not. Well, this new proposal is still in the study stage, but with strong possibilities for complete implementation, which will modify the organic results so that the viewing of the site on mobile devices determines its position in the top results.
This does not mean that a page designed only for desktop will stop being indexed, but it will cause pages designed for mobile to gradually gain position over those that are not optimized for mobile.
For this reason, we share some recommendations that you should consider for this change if your website appears differently on mobile and desktop devices:
- Occupy structured data for both versions (mobile and desktop).
- Check your robots.txt file so that it does not hide urls from both versions.
- Correct use of alternative or canonical relationships between one version and another.
- Verify ownership of all versions of the site you have.
These tasks can be done easily from Google Search Console. If you are not aware of the terms and/or activities to be carried out, it is highly recommended that your webmaster or IT area can review said advice.
