Animated GIFs can demonstrate a product, show a short sequence or add emphasis inside an email. They are effective when the movement clarifies the message rather than distracting from it.
Use animation for a specific purpose
A GIF can preview several product views, explain a simple action or reveal a before-and-after state. Keep the sequence short and ensure the first frame communicates the essential idea.
Design for compatibility
Some email clients may display only the first frame. Test representative clients and never place critical information exclusively in later frames.
Protect performance
Large animations load slowly and consume mobile data. Reduce dimensions, frames and color complexity, and consider linking to video or an interactive page when the explanation is long.
Respect accessibility
Provide meaningful alternative text and avoid rapid flashing. Give readers enough context in surrounding copy, since animation cannot be paused consistently in every client.
Measure the campaign outcome
Evaluate whether the animation improves comprehension or action, not only whether it attracts clicks.
Animation should support the message. If a static image communicates as well, the simpler option may create a better experience.
