A job interview is a two-way evaluation. The employer is assessing your fit for the role, and you are deciding whether the work, expectations and organization are right for you.
Five practical preparations
- Understand the role. Review the responsibilities and prepare examples that show relevant decisions, actions and results.
- Research the organization. Learn about its work, customers and recent context so your questions are specific.
- Be punctual and prepared. Confirm the location or connection, test technology and keep requested materials accessible.
- Communicate authentically. Describe your experience accurately, acknowledge what you are still learning and avoid rehearsed claims you cannot support.
- Evaluate the employer. Ask about objectives, management, collaboration, growth, working conditions and the next steps.
Choose clothing and presentation appropriate to the role and setting without pretending to be someone else. Follow up concisely if the process calls for it.
A strong interview creates a realistic understanding on both sides, not simply a successful performance for one conversation.
